PVC strip curtains are flexible plastic barriers made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the third-most-widely manufactured synthetic polymer. They hang vertically in doorways and openings, providing separation between areas for temperature control, dust and pest exclusion, and noise reduction while allowing seamless passage for people and equipment. Unlike solid doors, they create no workflow interruption and require virtually no maintenance.
PVC Strip Curtains Overview
From walk-in fridges and cold rooms to busy fast foods and commercial kitchens, our PVC strip curtains, sometimes called butcher’s curtains, are the UK’s premier energy-saving barrier solution.
Our Standard PVC stays flexible and crack-resistant down to -15°C; our Polargrade option handles freezer environments down to -25°C. They’re a simple, cost-effective way to cut energy costs, stop contamination, and keep operations moving without the friction of a traditional door.

Frequently asked questions about PVC Strip Curtains
What are PVC strip curtains?
Are PVC curtains waterproof?
Yes. PVC is inherently water-resistant and will not rot, swell, or degrade when exposed to moisture. This makes PVC strip curtains ideal for wash-down environments, food processing areas, and any location where water ingress or condensation is a concern.
What is the life expectancy of PVC curtains?
With normal use and basic cleaning, PVC strip curtains typically last several years. High-traffic environments may require individual strip replacement more frequently, but because strips are sold individually, you replace only what’s worn, keeping ongoing costs very low.

How are PVC strips installed?
Installation is straightforward: screw the hanging rail above the doorway, then hang the pre-made curtain strips on the rail. No specialist tools or trade skills required. For a full step-by-step guide, see our dedicated installation blog: PVC Strip Curtain Installation & Benefits.
What should I do if the PVC strips are too long for my door?
Insert the first strip into the headpiece to mark your desired length, then remove it and trim it down using a box cutter and a straight edge. Once trimmed, you can use this first strip as a template for cutting the remaining strips.
How do you clean PVC curtains?
You don’t need specialist equipment to clean your PVC strip curtains. Use warm water, mild washing-up liquid and a soft cloth or sponge. Do this regularly or when dirt is visible.
